Power of Attorney in Armenia is a legal document that allows one person (the principal) to authorize another person (the agent) to act on their behalf in various legal and business matters. This document has wide application and is used in various life situations, such as property management, banking operations, representation in courts, and much more.

Definition of Power of Attorney

Main Types of Powers of Attorney in Armenia

  • General Power of Attorney: grants the agent broad authority to perform various actions on behalf of the principal.

  • Notarized Power of Attorney: a power of attorney that is certified by a notary, giving it additional legal force and used for particularly important and significant actions.

What a Power of Attorney is Needed For

  • Sale and purchase of real estate: the agent can represent the principal’s interests in real estate transactions.
  • Management of bank accounts: the agent can perform banking operations on behalf of the principal.
  • Representation in courts and government institutions: the agent can represent the principal in court proceedings and before government bodies.
  • Conclusion of contracts and agreements: the agent can enter into various contracts and agreements on behalf of the principal.
  • Obtaining documents: the agent can receive important documents, such as certificates, attestations, etc.

Duration of Power of Attorney

The validity period of a power of attorney is set by the principal and is specified in the document. In Armenia, there are no strictly established time limits for powers of attorney, and they may vary depending on the need:

  • Short-term powers of attorney: can be issued for several days or months to perform specific tasks.
  • Long-term powers of attorney: can be issued for a year or a longer period, depending on the need.

If the validity period of the power of attorney is not specified, it is considered valid for one year. The power of attorney may be revoked by the principal at any time, of which they must notify the agent and all interested parties.
